This year marks the 10th anniversary of the opening of Champaign’s Illinois Terminal. This four story building on 45 E. University Ave. is a transportation hub offering train and bus services to C-U area residents. The building also houses a Subway Sandwich shop on the first floor, offices for state Sen. Mike Frerichs, D-Champaign, the Junior League and READY School facilities on the third floor, and the fourth floor features a banquet room that can be rented out for private events.
Congratulations to Illinois Terminal for achieving this monumental step!
For those of you who have never been to Illinois Terminal, I would recommend you take a look at their offerings. I’ve used the terminal for both the bus station and train station. The train is a very affordable alternative for the nice weekend trip home. Whether you are going north to Chicago, or south to St. Louis, or all the way down to New Orleans, the train is a safe bet. You should experience a train ride at least once before you graduate, so check it out!

It’s true… the Illinois Terminal is great. It brought transportation to one specific place (before then, Amtrak, Greyhound, and the MTD buses didn’t meet at one place)… who can remember when the buses in downtown Champaign all met around the Hill/Neil parking lot?
Note, though, that currently, one can’t take the train south directly to St. Louis. You’d have to take a bus to Normal first, to do that.
