This year’s MLB draft took three current Illinois players to the major leagues, the most since five were drafted in 2005.

Illini shortstop Brandon Wikoff was taken as the 161st overall pick in the 5th round by the Houston Astros, third baseman Dominic Altobelli was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in 16th round, and center fielder Joe Bonadonna was drafted by Texas in the 43rd round. Some Illinois signees were also drafted including Seth Schwindenhammer and Matt Milroy.

So after all your hours of studying and possibly even test taking, what are you doing tonight? I think you should head over to Illinois field and watch the Illini baseball team take on Ohio State. This is a great way to finish off the school year. The game is called the “Bleacher Bum Barbecue” because there will be, you guessed it, barbecue. Free food, free admission, and a fireworks show at the conclusion of the game. What more could you ask for? The game starts at 5pm sharp… be there.

The annual Illini Day at Wrigley field has been set for May 31st. The event is organized by the Chicago I-FUND and tickets will be available to the public on Thursday, May 7, at 10 am.

The Chicago Cubs will be taking on the Los Angeles Dodgers at 7:05 p.m. University of Illinois Head Football Coach Ron Zook will be throwing out the first pitch and Head Men’s Basketball Coach Bruce Weber will be singing the seventh-inning stretch.
